There’s a new sheriff, er chief, in town

Lieutenant Noel Dela Llana has been selected by City Manager James A. Box as the next Chief of Police for the city of Stanton.

Dela Llana currently works for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and is a 24-year law enforcement veteran. He has accumulated enforcement, leadership and investigative experience from his multiple service areas.

“I am truly excited to be selected to serve as Stanton’s next Chief of Police. It’s important to me to develop and strengthen a lasting partnership within our community,” said Dela Llana.

GG goes high tech

The city of Garden Grove is going mobile by offering a new way to connect with city services, businesses, and other community features.

Starting June 1, Garden Grove’s official mobile app became available for download on Androids, iPhones and iPads.  To download the free app, visit the Google Play or App Store, and search for ‘Garden Grove.’

Garden Grove’s app includes city news, events calendar, direct communication to City Hall, job openings, parks and recreation, shop and dine listings, and featured local business deals.  In addition, users can use the built-in GPS system on the device to find directions to desired destinations and view photos.  Users can also receive urgent notifications that include alert notices from the city, instantaneously.

“Garden Grove recognizes that people rely on their smartphone to get things done,” said Mayor Bruce Broadwater.  “We literally want to put City Hall in the hands of users to access information more readily, as well as receive important city notifications in real-time.”

For more information, visit the city’s website at www.ci.garden-grove.ca.us or call the Office of Community Relations at 714-741-5280.

All-CIF teams to be named

The All-CIF teams for spring sports are expected to be announced this week. We should have plenty of Garden Grove athletes on those teams.

My guess is the Pacifica High girls softball team, which won CIF and finished the season ranked ninth in the nation, will have AT LEAST six girls on the team.

And look for Kaylee Carlson or Nicole DeWitt to be named Player of the Year. We’ll update this site when the announcement is made.

It’s here! Election day

Today (June 3) is election day.

As (bad) luck would have it, we won’t be able to get the results in Wednesday’s Orange County News, but look for an update on races that affect the Garden Grove and Stanton areas on this website, starting Wednesday.

And remember to vote!
